FAQ

We always welcome visitors to our street-level retail shop at Leaves of Trees HQ. We’re located at 177 Queen Street East. However, we do not provide tours of our production facilities.
For our Frankincense Argan Oil and Frankincense Lotion, we use pure frankincense resin which we have allowed to steep in the oil for a prolonged period of time. Recognized for its burning incense scent, it is also wonderful when used topically for its skin healing properties. Apply it to cuts, scrapes, minor burns, rashes and mature skin to reap the benefits. Our Frankincense lip balm uses the essential oil, equally wonderful to treat chapped lips.
All of the ingredients for our products are either fair trade or better, direct trade, as is the case with our argan oil.
Argan oil can be used topically as a moisturizer for your face and body. It absorbs quickly, leaving you feeling soft, not greasy. With high levels of vitamin E, phenols, carotenes (pro-vitamin A), squalene and fatty acids, argan oil nourishes and restores your skin. Studies have demonstrated that Argan Oil possesses significant anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidants prevent and repair skin damage caused by free radicals. Use it as a hair treatment to restore moisture and shine. Apply a few drops to the ends of wet hair, or apply liberally to the hair and scalp and leave in overnight for a deep moisturizing treatment. The oil can also be applied for the following: - styling oil to tame frizz - nail strengthening treatment and for softening cuticles - beard care for men - face and body shaving oil facial aftershave.
Argan oil is sometimes referred to as liquid gold, not only for its amazing benefits but also because it’s so labour intensive to obtain. Our argan oil, in particular, is organic, unrefined and cold-pressed by hand — as close to natural as you can get. We source our argan oil directly from a lovely women's cooperative along the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Women collect the argan tree nuts from the local area and then grind them by hand in the traditional way to extract cosmetic argan oil without the use of solvents or other harmful chemicals. It takes one woman 20 hours to produce only one litre of oil, so this enterprise helps to provide employment for the local women.

Yes. Our supplier certifies that the Grapefruit Seed Extract is triclosan free.
Our unscented products have no added essential oils for scent. Since we use unrefined organic ingredients wherever possible, these ingredients retain their natural scent, which may be detectable in the finished product.
While a controversial subject, there is no concrete evidence that the topical use of diluted essential oils (such as is in our products - around 2%) would be harmful for use by a woman who is pregnant or nursing. We recommend that you discuss any concerns with your doctor.
Sometimes people do get a rash from the deodorant. The most likely cause is irritation from the baking soda. Some people find it helpful to apply a bit of coconut oil or argan oil to the area before applying deodorant to minimize irritation.
Some other tips to reduce irritation:
  • Apply to clean skin
  • Don't use right after shaving
  •  Apply a small amount
  • Squeeze out 1/8"-1/4" per armpit
  • Rub in gently
  • Wash off before going to bed every night
Discontinue use if irritation persists.
What you’re seeing is soda ash and it’s completely harmless. It can sometimes occur on the surface of the soap that’s exposed to carbon dioxide in the air. It will wash away with the first use. If you bought the soap as a gift, you can wipe the soda ash away with a damp paper towel. (Tip: Wear gloves so you don’t leave any fingerprints on the bar.)
Our products contain no synthetic or artificial preservatives, but do contain ingredients like grapefruit seed extract and Vitamin E, which help prolong shelf life. We recommend using our products within six months of purchase as the scent of the essential oils will diminish over time. However, they are still good to use up to one year. Store products away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight.

Yes! The oil cleansing method is a highly effective way to cleanse your face without stripping it of vital oils or causing irritation. Our Facial Cleansing Oil gently cleanses your skin by dissolving natural oils and allowing removal of impurities. It allows you to easily remove makeup while moisturizing and healing your skin with a specially curated selection of active oils. Massaging your skin with the Facial Cleansing Oil is a relaxing ritual which has the added benefit of improving circulation to the delicate skin of the face and neck.
All of our argan oil varieties are beneficial for aging skin when incorporated into a regular skin care routine. For added moisture, add a drop or two to your daily moisturizer. The essential oils provide additional calming, soothing or antibacterial properties.

The glycerin we use is derived from plants, not animals. Glycerin is a natural-source ingredient with emollient properties that can soften and soothe the skin. Because it is a humectant, it attracts moisture in the air to the skin. Our pure vegetable glycerin is organic, non-GMO, and allergen-free.
